In 2022, FitzGerald Ecology completed a full flora study and rare plant survey of four sub-sites within Turvey Nature Reserve, Co. Dublin. As part of this work, we were responsible for the transplantation of two rare plant populations which were at risk of damage from planned environmental engineering works in the area. This transplantation was conducted successfully. This flora study will inform future environmental engineering works to be carried out by the client within Turvey Nature Reserve in the coming years, which is partially within the Rogerstown Estuary Special Area of Conservation (SAC).
I recently worked with FitzGerald Ecology on a small project in a European Designated Site. Alexis’s knowledge of botany was critical to the project and more generally his understanding of the requirements and rigours associated with the Habitats Directive proved to be a real asset to delivering this complex project. My experience is that FitzGerald Ecology provide professional, clear, and practical advice that facilitates landowners to use their land whilst ensuring that the wildlife continues to thrive. I have no hesitation in recommending FitzGerald Ecology to other prospective clients and will no doubt be using their services on future developments.
FitzGerald Ecology carried out a Vegetation Study of Lough Garr Natural Heritage Area Bog Walkway, Co. Westmeath for a client of Rethinking Rural Ireland (RRI) in 2022. The professionalism and research of the work carried out was of a high quality and greatly appreciated by all the key stakeholders in Rathowen, Co. Westmeath. I/we would have no hesitation in recommending FitzGerald Ecology services for similar work and we will most definitely use their services on future projects.
In order to contribute to management plans which I have prepared, Alexis has carried out fieldwork to produce habitat maps (Level 2 and 3) and vegetation studies for me, sometimes at short notice. He has compiled ultra reliable species lists, delivered digital files and responded promptly to queries. He is pleasant and knowledgeable and I would recommend him highly.
